Research advances in hearing preservation and reconstruction in vestibular schwannoma

  • In recent years, the goal of surgical treatment of vestibular schwannoma has been developed from reducing the mortality and disability rate and improving the retention rate of facial nerve function to preserving and reconstructing hearing. However, it is reported that only about 30%-60% of patients can preserve hearing. The treatment methods of vestibular neurinoma are complex and diverse. No matter patients undergoing radiotherapy, microsurgery or conservative observation, all of them may face short-term and long-term hearing loss and even unilateral deafness. At present, there are relatively few studies on vestibular schwannoma hearing preservation and reconstruction. This article summarizes the relevant progress in this field, in order to promote the progress in the research on vestibular schwannoma hearing preservation and hearing reconstruction.
