The clinical analysis of atherosclerotic renal disease in the aged and evaluating the intervention therapy for it

Objective:To study the clinical characters of atherosclerotic renal disease in the aged and evaluate the therapeutic effect of percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty and stent placement.Methods:All 38 aged patients were retrospectively reviewed, who were diagnosed as atherosclerotic renal disease by angiography in our hospital from october 1999 to october 2003. We investigated their clinical characters and evaluated the therapeutic effect of percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty and stent placement for 18 cases.Results:Most of the aged patients with atherosclerotic renal disease were companied by hypertension, coronary heart disease, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular disease et al as risk factors. Their major clinical troubles were elevated blood pressure and renal insufficiency. PTRAS was relatively safe, could improve syndromes of the patients with ARD by lower their blood pressure effectively and slowdown the renal deterioration.
