Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between HbA1c and cardiovascular events in hospitalized elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS). Methods Two hundred and three elderly ACS patients admitted to our department from June 2009 to June 2011 were divided into group A and group B according to their HbA1c.Their general clinical data were recorded, their fasting blood glucose level and HbA1c were measured, and their malignant cardiovascular events were observed. Results The fasting blood glucose(58.65% vs 56.38%) and HbA1c levels(7.83%±1.58% vs 6.17%±1.89%) were significantly higher in group B than in group A(P<0.01).The incidence of arrhythmia(23.85% vs 11.70%),heart failure(32.11% vs 17.02%) and recurrence of angina pectoris(26.61% vs 13.83%) was significantly higher in group B than in group A(P<0.05). Conclusion The incidence of malignant cardiovascular events is relatively high in hospitalized ACS patients with a high HbA1c level.
