Staheli slotted acetabular augmentation in treatment of developmental acetabular dysplasia in children aged over 8 years

Objective To report the experiences in treatment of developmental acetabular dysplasia in children aged over 8 years with Staheli slotted acetabular augmentation. Methods Clinical data about 40 children with developmental acetabular dysplasia（with left hip involved in 17,right hip involved in 17 and both hips involved in 6） aged over 10 years（8-18 years） who underwent Staheli slotted acetabular augmentation from December 2001 to August 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The mean follow-up time after operation was 5 years（3-10 years）.The clinical outcome was excellent,good and fair in 15,25 and 6 hips,respectively,according to the Mckay criteria.Roentgenogram showed that the clinical outcome was excellent,good and fair in 13,28 and 5 hips,respectively,according to the Severin criteria. Conclusion Staheli slotted acetabular augmentation is a simple and effective procedure for developmental acetabular dysplasia in children aged over 8 years.Its long-term effect needs to be further observed.
