Abstract
Objective To study the expression of cIAP-1 and XIAP in ovarian cancer tissue and its relation with prognosis of ovarian cancer patients. Methods Ninety-nine patients with pathology-confirmed serous ovarian cancer who were treated with neo-adjuvant chemotherapy before they underwent tumor cell reductive operation in our hospital from 2004-2009 were included in this study.Parameters of menopause, drugs used in neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, pathology classification and staging,tumor-free survival time and overall survival time were recorded.Expression of cIAP-1 and XIAP in paraffin tissue sample sections was detected with immunohistochemical staining and its relation with the parameters was analyzed. Results The cIAP1 expression level was correlated with tumor grade(P=0.034) and neo-adjuvant chemotherapy(P=0.035),but not with menopause(P=0.161).The CIAP expression level was not significantly correlated with the above parameters(P=0.230,0.192,0.560).A significant difference was found in overall survival time of patients with a high or low cIAP-1 and XIAP expression level(P=0.014).However,no significant difference was observed in overall survival time of patients with a high or low expression XIAP level(P=0.33).No significant correlation was found between tumor-free survival time and cIAP-1 and XIAP expression level(P=0.091,P=0.181). Conclusion The cIAP-1 expression level is correlated with tumor grade and overall survival time in patients with ovarian cancer after neo-adjuvant chemotherapy and can be used as an indication of their prognosis.
