Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between metabolic syndrome(MS) and serum uric acid level in fighter pilots. Methods MS in 306 male fighter pilots aged(28.13±3.18) years flying a modified fighter pilot was assessed in our hospital according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria. They were diagnosed with hyperuricemia(HUA) when their serum uric acid level was >420μmol/L.Their body height, body weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, serum lipid, fasting blood sugar and uric acid levels were measured. Results The serum uric acid level was higher in fighter pilots with MS than in those without MS(P<0.05).The serum lipid level was higher in fighter pilots with HUA than in those without HUA(P<0.05).No significant difference was found in waist circumference, fasting blood sugar and hypertension of pilots with and without HUA(P>0.05). Conclusion Serum uric acid level is closely correlated with serum lipid level in fighter pilots.
