Abstract
Objective To retrospectively analyze the effect of endoscopic treatment on cirrhosis accompanying acute esophagogastric variceal hemorrhage in emergency patients. Methods Of the 478 patients with cirrhosis accompanying acute esophagogastric variceal hemorrhage, 466 were treated by endoscopic ligation, sclerotherapy and embolism, respectively. Results Among the 466 patients with cirrhosis accompanying acute esophagogastric variceal hemorrhage, bleeding was successfully stopped in 413 by endoscopic ligation, sclerotherapy and embolism, with a success rate of 87.8%, 89.8% and 90.8%, respectively. Twenty-three patients died with a death rate of 4.9%. Conclusion The outcome of patients with cirrhosis accompanying acute esophagogastric variceal hemorrhage is rather good after endoscopic treatment according to their hemorrhage.
