Clinical observation of the combination of Foley catheter and different dosages of estrogen for ancillary treatment of uterine adhesions after adhesiolysis

  • Objective To evaluate the effects of the combination of Foley catheter and different dosages of estrogen (estradiol valerate) on ancillary treatment of uterine adhesion after hysteroscopic adhesiolysis. Methods Thirty patients who underwent hysteroscopic adhesiolysis and then were put an intrauterine balloon of Foley catheter were selected. Fifteen patients were treated with E2V (4 mg/d), and the other ffteen patients were treated with E2V (12 mg/d) for one month. One and three months after the surgery, all cases were followed up to identify the recovery of the menstruation, the thickness of the endometrium and to perform a second look of hysteroscopy. Results The rate of the improvement of clinical symptoms was 60% (9/15) in low dosage group and 66.7% (10/15) in high dosage group, which was of no statistical signifcance (P> 0.05). The total pregnancy rate was 33.3% (10/30), with 20% (3/15) in low dosage group against 46.7% (7/15) in high dosage group, which was of no statistical signifcance (P> 0.05). Conclusion The treatment effect of the combination of Foley catheter and E2V (4 mg/d) is of no statistical signifcance to that of Foley catheter and E2V (12 mg/d).
