Visual function testing of diabetic retinopathy

  • Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a serious blindness causing disease complicated by diabetes, which can destroy the normal function of the retina by complex pathological changes, and cause irreversible damage to visual acuity. Optical coherence tomography (OCT), multifocal ERG (mERG), visual evoked potential (VEP) as the new noninvasive techniques are widely used to track the progression of retinal function and detect early changes in patients with diabetes. Advances of visual function testing methods of diabetic retinopathy in recent years are reviewed in this article.
