Analgesic effect of flurbiprofen and parecoxib for patients undergoing multi-lumbar spinal fusion surgery

  • Objective To compare the analgesia effect of two category of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), parecoxib and fl urbiprofen, in patients undergoing multi-lumbar fusion surgery. Methods Fifty-eight multi-lumbar fusion cases were selected from June 2013 to February 2014 and divided into three groups randomly, they were given flurbiprofen, parecoxib and 0.9% sodium chloride injection at postoperative 1 h, 4 h, 10 h and 20 h, respectively. The visual analogue scale (VAS) was recorded at postoperative 3 h, 6 h, 12 h and 24 h. The adverse effects were also recorded. Results The fl urbiprofen's VAS score at 3 h, 6 h, 12 h and 24 h was 1.95, 2.60, 2.00 and 1.65, respectively. And the parecoxib was 2.85, 2.55, 1.85 and 1.60, respectively. While, the 0.9% sodium chloride injection was 3.00, 3.83, 2.70 and 2.44, respectively. And there was no statistically significant difference in adverse effects among the three groups. Conclusion Flurbiprofen seems to be as a good option as parecoxib for the patients undergoing multi-lumbar spinal fusion surgery, while fl urbiprofen shows advantages in releasing pain more quickly.
