Complications of liver cancer patients treated with ultrasound-guided microwave ablation: A analysis of 246 cases

  • Objective To analyze the complications of 246 liver cancer patients treated with ultrasound-guided percutaneou microwave ablation and supply basis for prophetic nursing care. Methods Clinical data about 246 patients with primary or metastati liver cancer hospitalized in our department from September 2011 to August 2012 were analyzed. The complications observatio form designed by ourselves of microwave ablation treatment for liver cancer were recorded and analyzed. Results All patients wer treated with microwave ablation for 382 times. The main complications were pain (78.46%), fever (60.98%), hypertension (58.54%) damage of liver function (36.18%), hyperglycaemia (19.92%) and hypokalemia (9.76%), in which mild to moderate pain accountin for 96.89%. The fever was mainly moderate (62.67%), which lasted for 1-2 days (93.33%). The severe complications wer haemorrhage in 2 patients (0.81%) and hepatapostema in 1 patient (0.41%). The hypertension and hyperglycaemia after treatmen were related with the accompanied disease (P< 0.01). Conclusion The complications of ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwav ablation for liver cancer are mostly temporary and reversible, part of which are closely related with the accompanied diseases
