Correlation of single nucleotide polymorphisms of selenprotein S with Acinetobacter baumanii infection

  • Objective To determine the correlation of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of selenprotein S (SELS) and Acinetobacter baumanii infection in Chinese population. Methods Four hundred and twenty-three Acinetobacter baumanii infected patients and 385 patients collected from the same ward without infection were served as experimental group and control group, respectively. The candidate SNPs of SELS (rs4965373, rs4965814 and rs34713741) were selected according to their frequency (> 5%), as well as their associations with infectious diseases reported previously. SNP genotyping was performed using an improved multiplex ligation detection reaction (iMLDR) technique. The relation between Acinetobacter baumanii infection and SNPs of SELS were analyzed by multiple logistic regression model. Results All the 3 SNPs of SELS were in Hardy-Weinbeg equilibrium. The SNPs of rs34713741 was related to A. baumannii-infection (P< 0.05), while the SNPs of rs4965373 and rs4965814 had no signifcant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05), but the haplotype GT was identifed to have signifcant association with Acinectobacter baumannii infection (P=0.032). Conclusion Our studies suggest that the SNPs (rs4965373, rs4965814 and rs34713741) are related to the susceptibility to Acinectobacter baumannii infection in a Chinese population.
