Application of heterogeneous acellular dermal matrix in repairing oral and maxillofacial defect

  • Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of heterogeneous acellular dermal matrix (H-ADM) in oral and maxillofacial defect repair. Methods Fifty-nine cases with oral and maxillofacial defects which were caused by tumor surgery, trauma, mucosal disease and scar resection were restored with H-ADM. The defects were located in buccal region, palate, tongue, foor mouth, parotid gland, gingiva, oral vestibular groove and so on. All patients were followed up for 2 weeks to 6 months postoperatively and the repair effcacy was assessed. Results Of the 59 cases undergoing transplantation, 52 cases were primary healing with the success rate of 88.14%, 7 cases failed due to large, tough and irregular wound, cavity existing between repair membrane and wound, early mouth movement and so on, which caused the falling off of partial repaired membrane. Conclusion H-ADM plays a role in wound coverage, guide tissue regeneration and biological scaffold during wound healing. The effect of repairing is satisfactory and it is worthy of clinical promotion.
