Comparison of efficacy of focused ultrasound and Budesonide nasal spray in treatment of allergic rhinitis

  • Objective To investigate the advantages of focused ultrasound in treatment of allergic rhinitis by comparing it with Budesonide nasal spray. Methods The efficacy of 65 allergic rhinitis patients before and after focused ultrasound treatment in our hospital from October 2013 to September 2014 was compared, and the efficacy of 68 allergic rhinitis patients with the use of budesonide nasal spray was compared with the efficacy of focused ultrasound. Results Postoperative follow-up was done for 6 months to 1 year. The score before and after treatment in focused ultrasound group was (9.12±2.06) and (4.35±1.27), 31 cases were markedly improved (47.69%), 28 cases improved (43.08%), and invalid was found in 6 cases (9.23%) with the total effective rate of 90.77%, while 6 cases had adverse reactions (9.23%). The score before and after treatment in budesonide nasal spray group was (8.11±1.97) and (5.35±1.27), 22 cases were markedly improved (32.35%), 33 cases improved (48.53%), and invalid was found in 13 cases (19.12%) with the total effective rate of 80.88%, while 5 cases had adverse reactions (7.35%). There were significant differences in score of before and after focused ultrasound treatment and total effective rate between two groups (P< 0.05), while there was no significant difference in adverse reaction rate between two groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion The focused ultrasound treatment for allergic rhinitis has long-term effectiveness with stability, and its total effective rate is higher than budesonide nasal spray treatment with smaller adverse reaction rate and rapid postoperative recovery.
