Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of alverine combined with simethicone in the bowel preparation for capsule endoscopy in patients with previous abdominal surgery. Methods Sixty-nine patients who would undergo capsule endoscopy in our hospital from January 2013 to June 2015 were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. Patients in control group were given polyethylene glycol electrolyte (PEG), and those in experimental group, alverine and simethicone in addition to PEG were administered. The image quality, tolerance and transit time in gastrointestinal tract were evaluated and compared between two groups. Results The adverse effects score in experimental group was significantly lower than control group (1.83±0.46) vs (8.26±1.12), P< 0.01. The image quality in experimental group was superior to control group, and the bubbles volume and quality of visualization in experimental group was significantly lower than control group (0.29±0.06) vs (2.79±0.09), (0.35±0.06) vs (2.82±0.05), P< 0.01. There was no difference in the transit time in gastric and gastrointestinal tract between two groups (30±12) min vs (28±7) min, (308±35) min vs (312±13) min, P> 0.05. Conclusion Regimen of alverine combined with simethicone can be used in the bowel preparation in patients with previous abdominal surgery before capsule endoscopy with improved image quality and better tolerance.
