Clinical characteristics of 402 cases of pediatric ocular trauma

  • Objective To discuss the time, age, causes, prognosis of pediatric ocular trauma and provide evidences for prevention and treatment on pediatric ocular trauma. Methods Clinical data about 402 ocular trauma patients admitted to our hospital under 18 years old from January 2004 to December 2014 were collected and analyzed. Results Of the 402 cases, the ratio of male to female was 4.43∶1, with more males than females in all different age groups.Most injuries (40.05%) were open globe injuries with the main cause of foreign body and common things accounting for 61.41%.The peak of admission was from December to March, and about 49.0% of patients did not improve their visual acuity during hospitalization. Conclusion The condition of pediatric ocular trauma is severe with poor prognosis.
