Role of transforming growth factor β in endometriosis and its clinical significance

  • Endometriosis(EMs) is a kind of relatively common disease with unclear pathogenesis in women of reproductive age.At present, the main theory about EMs is menstrual blood planting, synergistic action of body cavity epithelial factors, immunodeficiency and angiogenesis, which play important roles in the pathogenesis of EMs.Previous researches have shown that the transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) is of great importance in development of endometriosis through various ways. This article reviews the relationship between TGF-β and endometrial cell metastasis, neovascularization, cell metabolic pattern transformation and pelvic adhesion formation, which may provide new ideas for EMs treatments.
