Abstract
Coronary artery disease is one of the most common chronic diseases, and coronary artery calcification is an important marker of coronary atherosclerotic progress. Coronary artery calcium, especially severe calcified lesion, is a significant risk factor of immediate complications of surgery and major adverse cardiovascular events in early and late stages. Cardiac multi-slice CT scan is a non-invasive technique to detect the presence, location and extent of calcified plaque in coronary arteries. In this article, we review the utilization of multi-slice CT in detection of coronary calcification, especially in the capabilities and significance of calcium scoring. Moreover, the advantage and disadvantage of MSCT and other examinations in coronary artery calcification detection are also summarized.
