Advances in the pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome

  • The mechanism of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is still unknown, which may be related to abnormal intestinal motility, visceral hypersensitivity, psychological factors and so on. Studies in recent years have demonstrated that low-grade inflammation, brain-gut axis and neuro-endocrine-immune regulation may play important roles in the pathogenesis of IBS. In this paper we will review recent research advances in the pathogenesis of IBS.
