Research progress of antimicrobial peptides in treatment of periodontal diseases

Antimicrobial peptides are a series of small molecular cationic peptides composed of amino acids, which have been widely used in periodontology field due to its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and neutralizing endotoxin effect. In this article, we will view the classification and bactericidal mechanism of antimicrobial peptides, their application in periodontology diseases, and prospect of antimicrobial peptidesin in both foundamental research and clinical field.
