Total hip arthroplasty for infection after internal fixation of hip fractures

Infection is one of the most severe complications after hip fracture fixation． The goal of its treatment is to eradicate infection, relieve pain and restore function． However, with reservation of internal implants, it is hard to achieve only by antibiotic therapy or debridement, lead to consequences such as incomplete infection control, high recurrence rate and other complications after operation． Currently, total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become an effective salvage method for failed internal fixation of hip fractures, and it has been proved effective clinically． This article reviews all relative clinical researches on THA treating hip infection after failed hip fractures internal fixation, so as to provide reliable evidences for clinical practice．
