Frailty in centenarians in parts of Hainan province and its influencing factors

Abstract
Objective To estimate the prevalence of frailty in centenarians and identify the factors associated with frailty in Hainan province. Methods From May to December in 2016, a cross-sectional survey was conducted in centenarians who had been living in 8 districts of Hainan province by doctors and nurses in Hainan Branch of Chinese PLA General Hospital using self-made questionnaire and Frail Scale. Results The prevalence of frailty and prefrailty were 20.6%, 65.0%, respectively. Frailty were associated with nutrition status, activity of daily life, urinary incontinence, stool incontinence, pain, and sleeping problems. Conclusion Since frailty in centenarians is a serious problem, a variety of measures should be taken to prevent adverse health outcomes, and better medical service should be provided to optimize their quality of life.
