Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical effect of benzalkonium chloride solution in the treatment of dog bite wounds. Methods Three hundred and seventy-eight patients suffering from dog bite wounds admitted to our hospital from December 2016 to December 2017 were divided randomly into the experimental group (n=188) and control group (n=190). The wounds of patients in experimental group were treated with iodophor solution along with benzalkonium chloride solution, while the wounds of the control group were treated with iodophor solution as usual. The pain index and rates of wounds infection were observed and documented. Results Compared with control group, the pain index and the infection rate of experimental group were significantly lower(2.87±0.94 vs 5.98±1.01, P=0.000 1; 7.43% vs 14.21%, P=0.021). Conclusion Using benzalkonium chloride solution to wash the wound can relieve pain, an achieves better anti infection outcome.
