Reliability and validity of Chinese version of the Self-rated Fall Risk Questionnaire in older adults

  • Objective To sinicize the Self-rated Fall Risk Questionnaire (FRQ) for forming homologous Chinese version, and provide an effective tool in assessing the fall risk of Chinese senior citizen. Methods The Chinese version FRQ was obtained via translating and adjusting the English one. Then the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the FRQ were tested in 158 older adults, who were recruited from multidisciplinary consultation center of Chinese PLA General Hospital from April to June in 2018. Results A total of 65 (41.1%) males and 93 (58.9%) females participated in the survey with an average age of (71.14±7.89) years, and the average score of fall risk assessment in 158 elderly people was (5.17±3.36). The retest reliability of the Chinese version of FRQ was 0.957, and Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.724. The content validity index (CVI) was 0.98. The cumulative variance contribution rate of the four common factors extracted from exploratory factor analysis was 58.57%, and each item had high factor loading quantity (> 0.4). Conclusion Chinese version of the FRQ is proved to be a simple and convenient assessment scale with good reliability and validity, which may be a validated tool for the elderly fall risk screening in China.
