Abstract
Keratoprosthesis is the last choice for patients with severe corneal blindness in whom standard keratoplasty is destined to fail. The Boston type Ⅰ keratoprosthesis BKPro is currently the most commonly used keratoprosthesis worldwide. Although the clinical outcomes have been significantly improved in these years, BKPro is far from the desired effect due to its complexity. Corneal melting is a complication of BKPro surgery, and may lead to disastrous consequences. The research progress about the epidemiology, risk factors and management of corneal melting after BKPro surgery in recent years are reviewed.
