Correlation between triglyceride level and hyperuricemia in community dwelling middle-aged and elderly people

  • Objective To investigate the level of triglyceride and the correlation between triglyceride level and hyperuricemia in community dwelling middle-aged and elderly people. Methods A cross-sectional data set of health examination population in a community in 2018 was analyzed to investigate the correlation between triglyceride level and hyperuricemia. Results A total of 634 middle-aged and elderly people were enrolled,including 272 males and 329 females,with age ranging from 45 to 89 (62.1±11.3) years.Hypertriglyceridemia was found in 69 (10.9%) cases and hyperuricemia was found in 169 (26.7%) cases.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the prevalence of hyperuricemia increased by 44.7% (OR=1.447,95% CI:1.175-1.781) with the increase of triglyceride level by 1 mmol/L after adjusting factors such as age,sex,BMI classification,waist circumference,high density lipoprotein cholesteroland hemoglobin.According to gender stratification analysis,the prevalence of hyperuricemia increased by 37.4% (OR=1.374,95% CI:1.054-1.791) with 1 mmol/L increase of triglyceride in male,and by 64.8% (OR=1.648,95% CI:1.201-2.259) with 1 mmol/L increase of triglyceride in female. Conclusion Increased triglycerides are associated with increased risk of uricemia in community dwelling middle-aged and elderly people.
