Perioperative outcomes of Da Vinci robot-assisted versus laparoscope-assisted right hemicolectomy for colon cancer

Objective To compare the perioperative indicators of Da Vinci robot-assisted versus laparoscope assisted right hemicolectomy for colon cancer,and evaluate the safety and effectiveness of robot-assisted hemicolectomy. Methods Clinical data about 113 patients who underwent right hemicolectomy for colon cancer in our center were analyzed retrospectively.There were 54 patients in robot-assisted hemicolectomy group (RA group),and 59 patients in laparoscope-assisted hemicolectomy group (LA group).Perioperative variables were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in gender,age,ASA score and pathological stage between the two groups (P>0.05).Perioperative variables,such as number of retrieved lymph node,intraoperative blood loss,operating time and time to liquid food intake,also showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05).Compared with the LA group,hospitalization costs in the RA group was significantly higher (10.3±2.1 ten thousand yuan vs 6.7±1.7 ten thousand yuan,P=0.000). Conclusion Robot-assisted right hemicolectomy has comparable safety and effectiveness as laparoscope for colon cancer,but higher cost.
