Correlation between water pressure and success rate of B-ultrasound guided hydrostatic enema of intussusception in children

  • Objective To analyze the correlation between water pressure and the success rate of B-ultrasound guided hydrostatic enema of intussusception in children. Methods Clinical data about 454 cases with intussusception admitted to Weifang People's Hospital from September 2015 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed, including gender, age, time of onset, length of sleeve, water pressure and success rate of hydrostatic enema. Results Of the 454 cases, intussusception reduction was performed successfully in 452 cases with the success rate of 99.3%.Two cases failed, including one case with Michael's diverticulum and one case with ileocecal lymphoma. The successful rate of intussusception reduction was 10.9% (49) at a pressure of 7-9 kPa,13.5% (61) at a pressure of 9.1-11 kPa;67.9% (307) at a pressure of 11.1-13 kPa,and 7.7% (35) at a pressure of 13.1-15 kPa. Conclusion The B-ultrasound guided hydrostatic enema is effective and safe for intussusception in children, and the success rate is the highest when the water pressure ranging from 11.1 to 13 kPa,without any complications.
