Ametropia in aviation aircrew: A cross-sectional investigation

Abstract
Objective To screen ametropia in aviation aircrew in Civil Aviation Flight University of China,and analyze the distribution of ametropia in different majors. Methods From October 2018 to March 2019,a total of 2 528 aviation aircrew in Civil Aviation Flight University of China were selected by cluster random sampling method as the research subjects.All the subjects received comprehensive eye examination,and then the detection results were analyzed. Results The total prevalence of ametropia was 44.38% (1 122/2 528),and it was 25.79% (377/1 462) in student pilots,66.85% (357/534) in flight attendants,62.65% (104/166) in aviation safety guards and 77.60% (284/366) in air traffic controllers.The prevalence of myopia was 44.15% (1 116/2 528),611 (24.17%) cases had low myopia,423 (16.73%) cases had moderate myopia,and 82 (3.24%) cases had high myopia.The prevalence of ametropia was 38.26% (790/2 065) for male students and 71.71% (332/463) for female students,while for myopia it was 38.01% (785/2 065) for male students and 71.49% (331/463) for female students with significant difference (P=0.000). Conclusion The ametropia in aviation aircrew in our university mainly presents as low and moderate myopia,and the prevalence in female students is higher.
