Research advances in programmed cell death in vascular smooth muscle proliferation

Nowadays,many kinds of programmed cell death have been found,including apoptosis,autophagy,pyroptosis,ferroptosis and so on.Previous studies have revealed that vascular smooth muscle maintains the balance of cell number through proliferation and programmed cell death.When stimulated by inflammation or external injury,the balance is broken,resulting in massive proliferation of vascular smooth muscle and causing a series of pathological changes.The study of the regulation mechanism of programmed cell death in vascular smooth muscle proliferation is helpful to understand the pathophysiological mechanism of vascular proliferative diseases.This article reviews the research progresses in the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells by programmed cell death.
