Research and clinical verification of fall monitoring system for inpatients

  •   Background  Reporting and analysis of fall adverse events in hospitalized patients is an important way for nursing quality management and the focus of continuous quality improvement. However, this method is time-consuming, laborious, time-laged and distorted, for it cannot realize the information sharing and utilization at medical workstations, and cannot meet the current needs of diversified information construction and data analysis in hospitals.
Objective  To construct a fall monitoring system based on hospital informatization environment, which can automatically extract and present in real time, so as to promote the comprehensive, dynamic and continuous implementation of fall safety management for hospitalized patients.
Methods  According to the actual clinical workflow, the information source and screening strategy were determined based on the suspected fall cases, then the cases detected by the system were included in the fall case database after clinical confirmation. The sensitivity and accuracy of the system were verified through clinical investigation.
Results  A real-time monitoring system for falls detecting in hospitalized patients was constructed, which realized the automatic acquisition of data, and it could extract data by level, ward and time.
Conclusion  An automatic real-time, dynamic continuous and objective real-time monitoring system is constructed, thus realizing the timely monitoring of fall events in hospitalized patients and strengthening the management of falls.
