Abstract
Creatine kinase is one of the most important catalytic enzymes in brain energy metabolism and plays an important role in transferring high-energy phosphates between creatine phosphate and adenosine triphosphate. The energy buffer system consisting of creatine kinase and phosphocreatine has good neuroprotective effect. The abnormality of this system is closely related to cognitive dysfunctions, while creatine supplementation or creatine kinase activation may improve cognitive dysfunction. This article summarizes related researches during these years, so as to further clarify the pathophysiological mechanism of cognitive dysfunctions and provide a feasible reference for the development of new drugs targeting creatine or creatine kinase.
