Application of endoscopic thyroidectomy in clinical practice with a report of 53 cases

Objective To study the possibility and clinical value of laparoscopic thyroidectomyMethods Fifty-three patients（26 with thyroid adenoma,14 with nodular goiter,11 with thyroid carcinoma and 2 with hyperthyroidism） underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy in our hospital from October 2003 to January 2010Results The endoscopic thyroidectomy was successful in 52 patients.Of these patients,1 received single-port laparoscopic operation,1 was transferred to open surgery.The mean operation time was 90（62-210）min,the blood loss was 5-50ml,and the mean hospital stay time was 5 days.Forty-five patients were followed up for 8 months to 5 years（mean 24 months） after operation.All the patients were satisfied with the outcomeConclusion Laparoscopic thyroidectomy is a safe procedure with a good cosmetic effect and no scar formation.
