Clinical distribution and drug-resistant characteristics of 65 Acinetobacter baumannii strains

  • Objective To analyze the drug-resistant characteristics of Acinetobacter baumannii infection in order to provide the experimental evidence for its prevention and treatmentMethods Clinical samples of sputum, blood, urine and wound secretion samples were collected from Acinetobacter baumannii-infected patients admitted to our hospital in May-June 2007.The drug-resistant characteristics of Acinetobacter baumannii strains were analyzed using their MIC value assayed by standard disk diffusion susceptibility testResults A total of 65 Acinetobacter baumannii strains were isolated, which were mainly distributed in Emergency Department,Surgical ICU and Department of Respiratory Diseases.Their resistant rate to imipenem, meropenem and tigecycline was 80%,90.8% and 9.2%,respectively.However,the strains were sensitive to polymyxinConclusion The isolated Acinetobacter baumannii strains are resistant to multiple drugs, especially to carbapenem, thus single antibiotics is not recommended for clinical MDRAb infections.
