Effect of Parusweet® on postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of Parusweet® on postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM). Methods Fifty-tree type 2 DM patients enrolled in this study were randomly divided into standard diet group and standard diet + Parusweet® group according to their fasting blood glucose level.Their blood glucose and insulin levels and their AUC were measured 1 and 2 h after meal. Results The effective data were obtained from 40 type 2 DM patients(20 in standard diet group and 20 in standard diet+Parusweet® group).No significant difference was observed in blood glucose level and AUC 1 and 2h after meal between the two groups and in insulin levels 2h after meal between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion Parusweet® does not increase postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels in type 2 DM patients,suggesting that it can be used as a sugar surrogate in such patients.
