Knowledge of nurses about drugs used in intravenous chemotherapy for cancer

  • Objective To provide the evidence for nursing training by investigating the knowledge of nurses about drugs used in intravenous chemotherapy for cancer. Methods Knowledge about drugs used in intravenous chemotherapy for cancer in 471 nurses engaged in nursing for cancer patients from 6 class-three hospitals was investigated with questionnaires. Results The scores for nurses in different hospitals were significantly different(P<0.05).The scores were higher for nurses in cancer hospitals than for those in other hospitals.The scores were significantly higher for nurses in departments of hematology department and oncology than in other departments(P<0.05).No significant difference was found in scores for nurses with different professional titles and different work experience(P>0.05).However,the scores for nurses with a bachelor degree were much higher than for those graduated from technical schools(P<0.05). Conclusion The scores for nurses in departments of hematology and oncology and for those with a bachelor degree are higher than those for nurses in other departments or graduated from technical schools.
