Pathological change in rabbit ovary after adnexal torsion

Abstract
Objective To observe the pathological change in rabbit ovary after adnexal torsion. Methods A adnexal torsion(AT) model of rabbit was established.Forty Japanese long-ear white rabbits were randomly divided into AT model group(n=32) and control group(n=8).The left adnexas of rabbits in AT model group were twisted 3 circuits in clockwise and fixed on the left abdominal wall.Rabbits in the AT model group were then divided into 4 subgroups(8 in each).Bilateral ovaries in each subgroup were removed 24,48,72 and 96h after adnexal torsion,respectively.The bilateral ovaries in control group were removed 96h after sham operation.All the removed right ovaries were used as pathological internal-controls. Results Infiltration of a small number of inflammatory cells,ovarian cells,and edema of ovarian cells were observed 24h after torsion of the left adnexa.Infiltration of more inflammatory cells,structure disorder and edema of granular cells were found 48h after torsion of the left adnexa.Infiltration of a large number of inflammatory cells,structure disorder and focal necrosis of granular cells,and edema of ovarian cells were seen 72h after torsion of the left adnexa.Diffuse necrosis of granular and ovarian cells was found 96h after torsion of the left adnexa.The pathological score of the left and right ovarian tissues was 5.23±1.20 and 0.65±0.51,7.81±1.29 and 0.59±0.42,7.49±1.43 and 0.67±0.61,8.37±1.19 and 0.73±0.61,respectively,24,48,72 and 96h after torsion of the left and right adnexas.The expression level of iNOS was different in ovaries of the AT model group and reached its peak 72h and 96h after adnexal torsion. Conclusion Different extension injuries occur after adnexal torsion,which are reversible after 72h.
