Abstract
Objective: To find a new and applicable animal model of compartment syndrome for the clinical and fundamental analysis. Methods: The hind limbs of the dogs are pressed by a pneumatic tourniquet, the width of the tourniquet is 8.5cm,equal to the length of the hind limbs. The hind limbs is not only pressed by the cuff but also under the condition of ischemia. Twelve dogs are divided into two groups. Groups Ⅰ:the cuff of the pneumatic tourniquet is inflated to 40kPa for 8 hours; Group Ⅱ: the pressure is 80kPa for 8 hours. Results: The tissue pressure rises to more than 4.0kPa, and the degeneration and necrosis of the muscle and the nerve fibers is discovered. Conclusion: This animal model is successful and repeatable.
