Abstract
G-reactive protein (CRP) is a currently used index of the most acute phasic reaction in clinical diagnosis. In this study, serum GRP was examined in 159 patients with different kinds of respiratory disease. There were signiiicantly different levels in various pathogenic entities. It is higher in most cases of infections caused by various microorganisms. GRP present in bacterial infections is higher than that in viral or mycoplasmal infections. Almost all cases of allergic asthma or idiopathic pneumothorax yield normal levels. CRP measurement has an important referential value in distinguishing infections from noninfections diseases. It is also possible to evaluate the severity of infection by the use of this test and to judge the possible kinds of infecting microorgauism. It may serve as a guide in observing the therapeutic effects of antibiotic Agents.
