Comparison of morbidity of obesity by bioelectric impedance analysis,BMI,waist circumference in young healthy people

  • Objective: To compare morbidity of obesity by different measurements in young healthy people. Methods: The height, weight, waist circumference(WC),hip circumference(HC),mid-upper arm circumference(MAC),triceps skinfold thickness(TSF),subscapular skinfold thickness(SSF) in 369 young people with average of(27.1±9.4)years were measured. In addition,BCA-2A Body Analysis Instrument was applied to measure body compositions.Five indices to estimate and compare fat rate for men and women were used, including the percent of body fat(F%),body mass index(BMI),WC,ideal body weight and TSF+SSF.Results: There was significant difference in the overall parameters of men and women(P<0.05).There were also significant differences between rates of fat by five indices for men and women. The highest rate of screening of obesity was the percent of body fat(F%),the lowest was ideal body weight. Conclusion: Bioelectric impedance analysis(BIA) is a more sensitive way for screening of obesity.
