A clinicopathological study on removed allograft kidneys

  • Objective: In order to improve the long term survival rate of renal allografts, a clinicopathological study on removed allograft kidneys was designed in this series. Methods: Eighty five cases of failed renal allografts were investigated histopathologically. 85 specimens from pretransplant biopsy were simultaneously observed as a control group. The Banff classification and Lesion Scoring in Renal Allograft Pathology were adopted as criteria in this study. Results: Of the 85 cases, 44(51.8%)were acute rejection, and 19(18.8%) were chronic rejection. Conclusion: The acute rejection is the leading cause for renal allograft failure.
