Distribution and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria in five-year blood cultures

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the distribution and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria in blood culture in order to provide evidence for the treatment of diseases in clinical practice. Methods: Blood samples were put into blood culture bottles(Beijing Botai Technique Development Center)and cultured in the BacT ALERT 3D automated blood culture system.Isolated bacteria were identified with the VITEK system.Drug sensitivity was tested using the BIOMIC. Results: From January 2003 to December 2007,326 strains of pathogenic bacteria were isolated from clinical blood samples.Of the 326 strains of pathogenic bacteria,141 were Gram-positive(45.4%)and 155 were Gram-negative(47.9%).Among the Gram-positive bacteria,coagulase negative staphylococcus was most dominant,followed by staphylococcus aureus.Among the Gram-negative bacteria,Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the most frequently isolated.Staphylococcus epidermidis and staphylococcus aureus were sensitive to vancomycin and teicoplanin.No resistant strains were detected.The resistance rates of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae to imipenem were the lowest.The resistance rate of pseudomonas was 28%.Aeruginosa was resistant to cefetics. Conclusion: Drug resistance of isolated pathogenic bacteria in blood cultures is very severe. Monitoring the changes of pathogens and drug resistance is very important in clinical use of drugs.
