Effect of patient education on success rate of peripherally inserted central catheter in children with hematoma

  • Objective To study the effect of education on the success rate of peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) in children with hematoma.Methods Four hundred and sixteen children with hematoma who received PICC were randomly divided into intervention group and control group.Children in intervention group received education before operation by watching related pictures,data,videotapes,demonstrations and one by one teaching in order to make them cooperate during the operation.The mind of nurses was adjusted.Children in control group were routinely nursed.The success rates of PICC were compared between the two groups.Results The one-time success rate of PICC was 98.55% and 93.27% in intervention group and control group,respectively(P<0.01).Conclusion Strengthening education in children with hematoma before PICC can effectively increase its success rate.
