Correlation analysis on the degrees of atherosclerosis between coronary artery and aorta at autopsy in patients with hypertension

To evaluate the relation of the degrees of atherosclerosis between coronary atherosclerosis （CAS） and that of the aorta （AAS） in patients with hypertension, 259 continous autopsies data of hypertensive cases were analysised. Results: The incidence of AAS was significantly higher than that of CAS（89.6% vs 83.8%, P ＜0.05） though they were all increased with the grouth of age. There were significant differences between the incidence of AAS and CAS in the 70-79 and more than 80 years groups （94.3% vs 88.4%, and 100% vs 86.8%, P ＜0.05）.And there was a significant positive correlation between these two kinds of lesions as a whole （r=0.3633, P ＜0.01）. Among the age groups, there also showed a significant positive correlation between the degrees of AAS and CAS except the age group of more than 80. And also a significant positive correlation of the degrees of AAS and CAS （r=0.2751, P ＜0.01） revealed in 130 hypertensive patients complicated with coronary heart disease. Among them, 69 cases suffered from myocardial infarction,the correlation analysis of them showed a negtive result. Conclusion: The degree of AAS may reflect that of CAS correspondingly, but this correlation is not obvious in patients more than 80 year old or hypertension combined with myocardial infarction.
