The Clinicopathologic Characteristics of Polyps of the Large Bowel Following up for Five Years in the Aged

  • Fifty-six cases of polyps of the large bowel in the aged were analysed clinicopathologically. In the study, colonoscopy were performed in all cases and followed up for five years or more. This report was an analysis of 649 polyps from 56 cases involving in anatomic distribution, histological types and their relation to morphology, development and prognosis. The results demonstrated that multiple tubular adenomas were common, there were no significant variations in pathological features during follow up each year and all had satisfied prognosis. A minority of villous adenomas with atypical hyperplasia was strongly associated with contiguous invasive carcinoma. It should be emphasized that colonoscopic examination was necessary for the aged each year.
