Protective effect of Tianpu tablets on oxidative damage to erythrocytes

Objective To study the protective effect of Tianpu tablets on oxidative damage to erythrocytes. Methods Antioxidant effect of Tianpu tablets was detected by reducing power assay and scavenging DPPH radicals with BHT as a positive control.Protective effect of Tianpu tablets on oxidative damage to erythrocytes was observed in a mouse model of H₂O₂ and auto-oxidation damage to erythrocytes. Results Tianpu tablets had a rather good ability of reducing power and scavenging DPPH radicals with a strength close to that of BHT.Tianpu tablets could significantly decrease the oxidative damage to erythrocytes induced by H₂O₂ or auto-oxidation and the production of MDA in erythrocyte membrane. Conclusion Tianpu tablets are a rather good antioxidant and can protect erythrocytes against oxidative damage.
