Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of atorvastatin on pulmonary function in smokers with chronic pulmonary heart disease. Methods Fifty-five smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) complicated by chronic pulmonary heart disease were randomly divided into atorvastatin treatment group(n=27) and routine treatment group(n=28).Patients in routine treatment were routinely treated and patients in atorvastatin treatment were treated with atorvastatin(20mg/d).Changes in 6-minute walking test(6MWT),pulmonary function and ultrasound cardiogram were observed before and after 6 months of treatment. Results The pulmonary arterial pressure was significantly lower, the 6MWT value was significantly higher, and the pulmonary function indexes including FEV1 and FEV1/FVC were much better in atorvastatin treatment group than in routine treatment group 6 months after treatment compared to 6 months before treatment(P<0.05). Conclusion Atorvastatin can effectively improve the life quality, pulmonary function and pulmonary arterial pressure of smokers with chronic pulmonary heart disease.
