Behcet disease in pilots with multisystem damage:A case report

Objective To study the diagnosis and treatment of Behcet disease（BD）in pilots and their medical assessment of flying. Methods A 29-year-old pilot of type 5 fighter was hospitalized because of thrombus in the right internal jugular and branchiocephalic veins.Echocardiography showed multiple cardiac neoplasms 9 months after anticoagulation therapy.The patient was diagnosed as BD based on the presence of recurrent oral ulceration,folliculitis,erythema nodosum,and positive reaction to needling,and underwent comprehensive treatment with prednisone,immune depressants,etc. Results Mucocutaneous lesions and cardiac neoplasms disappeared after treatment. Conclusion BD is easy to recur and aviation factors can aggregate inflammatory reactions in blood vessels.Pilots with BD are not suitable to continue their flying.
