Combined treatment of 51 cases with retinamidoester and tetracycline

The author used retinoid derivative,retinamidoester combined with tetracycline for 51 cases of severe acne.Good response was obtained.Cases in this series comprised 16 acne vulgaris:16 nodular-cyst acne,10 acne conglobata,6 pustular acne and one cases of ache keloid,rosacea and perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens each.Retinamidoester was given 1—1.5mg/kg/d or 25 mg Tid,while tetracycline given 10—15mg/kg/d or 250 mg Tid.Each course was carried out for at least 8 weeks or more.Clinical cure was noted in 20 cases（39.2%）,markedly improved in 19 cases（37.3%）,improved in 11 cases（21.6%）,not improved in only one case（1.9%）.Rate of markedly improved cases was 76.5% and overall rate of improvement 98.1%.Side effects was found in 8 cases,rate of side effects was 15.6%.The treatment response,side effects and mechanism of retinamidoester combining with tetracycline were discussed.
