A clinical study on 30 cases of in-patient with serve drug eruptions

Abstract
Objective: To offer therapeutic experience on analysis of clinical data of the serve drug eruptions. Methods: To do a retrospective study of 30 patients identified with an age range of 10-71 years, the male to female ratio was 1.2∶1. Results: All cases were associated with medications, most commonly antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and carbamazepine. The mortality rate was 13.3% (four deaths), mostly resulting from cardiorespiratory failure and sepsis. Risk factors for death were severe underlying disease, including Budd-Chiari syndrome, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial asthma and systemic lupus erythematosus. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and prompt withdrawal of suspected drugs remain the most important measures in managing the two diseases. Treatment with corticosteroids do in fact suppress progression and appeared to be beneficial, supporting treatment and nursing care are also of great importance.
